Two Victorian era Iron Back chairs (French). Possibly not so surprising chairs often arrive in pairs. These two gorgeous iron back chairs arrived with broken bottoms. We were able to save the original springs and re-lashed their seats. Often we are asked to save as much of the original upholstery as possible, and here we could save the backs and the original buttoning. The calico cloth layer had stretched and warped over time so this was hand stitched to help firm up the structure. The seat was traditionally reupholstered with coir (coconut fibre) and then recovered in the top fabric. It should last another 200 years! Fabric: Linwood Omega Velvet (Click here to visit their website.)
A Victorian music stool, traditionally built. The stool had been used in the garden at some point in its life. Woodwork had been painted various colours and paint had seeped into the wood grain. The client, passionate about respecting the stool’s history, wanted to restore the woodwork and preserve the embroidery as much as possible. We created a calico cover for the original fabric and recovered that with some fabric the client had carefully saved from another personal piece of furniture. Fabric: Sanderson, Vintage Prints, Chelsea (Click here to visit their website.)
A mid-century modern concave chair, reupholstered and recovered using modern techniques. Over the years the original fabric had been recovered with a flexible, elastic loose cover. A well loved chair, the base foam had degraded and needed to be rebuilt and supported. The top fabric was then tailored on to the chair. Fabric: Bute Tweed, Masala (Click here to visit their website.)
